Various members of the West Texas A&M University art department will have their work highlighted at the university’s annual faculty art exhibit, which begins Monday.

Eight faculty members will have their work showcased in the exhibit, which will run through September 25 in the Dord Fitz Formal Gallery inside the Mary Moody Northen Hall on the Canyon campus, according to a press release. A reception for the gallery is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 2.

According to the statement, the exhibition will include paintings, prints, videos, assemblages and sculptures by Anna Lemnitzer, professor of digital art; Misty Gamble, Assistant Professor of 3D Art; Rob Weingart, art teacher; Ann Callen, graphic design trainer; Marcus Melton, associate professor of art; Michael Longhofer, art teacher; and Jon Revett, artistic program director and Doris Alexander Endowed Distinguished Professor of Fine Arts.

A recent lecture by Amy Von Lintel, professor of art history and director of gender studies, on the exhibition “Women of Abstract Expressionism in the American West” at the Amarillo Museum will also be included in the exhibition.

“We start each school year with a faculty exhibit to showcase the excellent work of the faculty’s WT art program,” Revett said in the release. “This annual exhibit is important because it shows our students that their teachers are active in their own artistic careers and practice what they preach. The multiple types and styles of work also show that we are up to date with current trends in the art world as a whole, which plays a vital role on the WT campus and in the wider Panhandle community.

The opening hours of the Fitz Gallery are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays.
