Vintage RV enthusiasts share their dining trips on the ‘Antique Camper Rally’
VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO / WAWV) – Camping nostalgia can be found in southern Vigo County this weekend. The “Ancient Campers Rally” is underway at Fowler Park.
Roger and Jill Kennedy bought their 1969 “Low Flight Shasta” as a retirement plan.
“She did all the work,” Roger said. “I don’t touch it. It’s her baby.
Like Janet and Dan Kleptz, they travel to various parks throughout the summer and attend vintage motorhome rallies. The Kleptze own a 1968 camper van that they saw in the men’s yard.
“It was full of beer cans and cigarette butts,” Janet Kleptz said.
They bought it anyway and took 6 months to restore it.
“I always say we have the ugliest motorhome on the campsite because everything is original. I mean it’s the original floor, paneling, ceiling, cabinetry, ”says Kleptz.
According to Vigo County Parks Superintendent Adam Grossman, the campground is reserved for more than 50 vintage campers dating from the 1930s to 1979.
“There is a lot of time, effort, sweat, tears, money to restore some of these campers and a lot of pride as well,” said Adam Grossman.
You can walk around the vintage campers on an open house from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 12.
Fowler Park is located at 3000 E Oregon Church Road, Terre Haute, IN 47802
