Now might be a great time to check your attic or basement for unique, rare, antique, or unusual items, because the crew of the cable TV show “American Pickers” will be visiting. to Michigan in May to film episodes of the show.

“American Pickers” is a documentary series that explores the world of antique “picking” on The History Channel. The hit show follows skilled foragers in the business as they search for America’s most valuable antiques. They are always on the lookout for important and unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them.

The show follows antique and collectibles collector Mike Wolfe, who travels the United States buying or “picking” various items to resell, for clients, or for their personal collections. Danielle Colby, another forager, runs the office of Wolfe’s company, Antique Archeology, from their home in Le Claire, Iowa, and more recently from a second location in Nashville, Tennessee.

Wolfe sets off on the road, not only following the leads Colby has generated, but also “freestyling” – stopping at places that appear to have items worth buying. They also choose certain places more than once.

The show’s producers are looking for leads all over Michigan, especially interesting characters with fascinating items and lots of them, according to a press release. They find people and collections for the show by spreading the word out so people know they’re coming to town.

Collectors interested in being considered for the show should contact the producers by phone at 646-493-2184 or by email at [email protected] These emails should include their full name, city/state, contact information, and a brief description of their collection, with photos, if possible.

The producers emphasized that they only choose private collections, not stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses or anything open to the public. Production crews will also follow all COVID-related guidelines and protocols for safe filming as directed by the state, according to the press release.
