South Dakota Mines Selects New Head of Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
RAPID CITY, SD – South Dakota Mines has selected Kyle Knight, Ph.D. to head the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Mines houses the university’s Bachelor of Science degree and Associate of Arts degree in General Studies.
The department also offers studies in the fields of art, art history, communication, foreign languages, human sciences, literature, music, philosophy and civilization. western. The program uses a broad approach, often developing valuable connections between the humanities and the science, engineering, and technical fields that Mines students enter upon graduation.
Dr. Knight was an associate professor of sociology and served as chair of the sociology department at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He received his BBA in Marketing from the University of Texas at Arlington and his Masters and Ph.D. in Sociology from Washington State University.
He is an environmental sociologist who has published numerous research articles on topics related to the human dimensions of environmental problems.
