New hires and a new book on Victorian rock star photography – the latest updates from the art and antiques business
Brian May and Denis Pellerin ‘the new book of
Queen rock star and guitarist Brian May is an avid collector of Victorian photography and has one of the largest collections of Victorian (3-D) stereo photographs in the world.
His company, the London Stereoscopic Company (LSC) exhibited regularly at photo shows.
He is now publishing a new book – Stereoscopy: the Dawn of 3-D – written by art historian Denis Pellerin and edited by May.
The book, which traces Victorian life through never-before-seen stereo photos from May’s archives, will be released next month. The stereoscope was first demonstrated in 1838 by Charles Wheatstone, inventor and professor of experimental philosophy at King’s College.
May and Pellerin also participate in a book conference with the British Library, held at King’s College and also via video.

Bishop & Miller auctioneers
Bishop & Miller Auctioneers has expanded its team of specialist appraisers. Steven Stockton joined as a specialist in paintings covering the Eastern Region. Stockton previously worked at Tennants and Bonhams.
His appointment follows former Bonhams specialist David Houlston, who joined earlier this year as a specialist consultant for vintage oak (ATG 2507). Oliver Miller said the company is expanding its auctions and now runs 100 auctions throughout the year, ranging from jewelry and watches to toys, military and music as well as a dedicated auction calendar.
Event and fair organizer Frieze has appointed Patrick Lee as director of Frieze Seoul. The Korean premiere is scheduled for September 2-5, 2022 at COEX in the city’s Gangnam District. In this role, Pat will work closely with Minju Kweon, who has been appointed to the new role of VIP Relations Manager, Asia.
Lee has over 15 years of experience in the arts, most recently as Executive Director of Hyundai Gallery in Seoul. Launched in partnership with the Galleries Association of Korea, the new fair will take place alongside KIAF ART SEOUL.
