Live updates: Euro 2020 final – England v Italy from Wembley Stadium in London
British Kiwi expatriate tempts fate with Euro 2020 victory tattoo
English football fanaticism reached new heights this week, after the country secured its first-ever place in the European Championships final.
While patriotic fervor was on full display in the UK, these celebrations swept expats across the globe, all to the relentless tune of ‘Football’s Coming Home’.
This includes New Zealand-based Briton Harry Hiscock, who now proudly sports a tattoo with a bold prediction that football will indeed come home, when England face Italy in Monday’s final.
After England scored a goal in their semi-final against Denmark on Thursday (New Zealand time), Hiscock’s friend offered to pay for a tattoo if he could come back and win.
In this case, Harry Kane’s overtime goal secured a 2-1 comeback victory and Hiscock’s meeting with the tattoo artist.
Unfortunately for Hiscock, his frugal mate couldn’t keep his end of the bargain.
“I accepted it in the market,” Hiscock told The Project. “I was a man of my word, unfortunately he wasn’t the same anymore and he left his wallet at home so I had to pay.”
Unsurprisingly, Hiscock’s partner wasn’t a huge fan of the tattoo, which reads “It comes home MMXXI”.
