Double Scoop contributors win Nevada’s top art journalism awards
DBoth Scoop contributors Josie Glassberg and Brent Holmes received the Nevada Press Association’s highest accolades for critical writing. Josie took first place in the association’s annual competition and Brent took second place. Josie and I attended the awards ceremony at The Depot in Reno on September 18th.
Josie is a Reno-based artist who also teaches science and agriculture in elementary school. His writing is characterized by a deep understanding of art history and contemporary issues, as well as a personal approach to the vision of art. She explores each subject from several angles, seeing it as an artist, a philosopher, an activist and sometimes as a mother. Her work helped define Double Scoop’s politically conscious and often feminist bent.
Josie also writes artist essays for Capital City Arts Initiative.
Brent is a Las Vegas artist who is always ready to look straight in his city’s complex relationship between art and entertainment. In the end, he defends the art and artists of southern Nevada, with passion and poetry.
Brent is also the owner of the Mesa Gallery, a contributor to The Believer magazine and an artist-in-residence at Nuwu Art, Cultural Arts + Activism Center.
