BAY VILLAGE, Ohio – Two favorite events return to the community this year on the same day, February 26 – the 52nd Bay Village Women’s Club Antique and Vintage Fair and the Mardi Gras event at St. Raphael’s School .
The Women’s Club show will also take place on a second day, February 27.
COVID-19 caused both events to be canceled last year, but each appears to be even bigger and better this year.
Women’s Club Antiques and Vintage Fair
The Antiques and Vintage Show will be held at Bay High School from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 26 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 27 in the cafeteria and hallways. The place will no doubt be full of antiques, all types of memorabilia, and vintage items that are sparkling clean and neatly stored.
All tables are neat and organized, allowing shoppers to see everything available at a glance.
Nancy Trainer, president of the Women’s Club, said: “It really is a step back in history. Shoppers will see vintage jewelry, shabby chic, furniture, home decor, and toys, as well as items for your home, playroom, and garden — and more.
She also noted that there will be free jewelry appraisals from Vivid Diamonds & Design from 1 to 3 p.m. on February 26 and antique appraisals from 1 to 3 p.m. on February 27.
The event is a long-standing fundraiser for scholarships to Bay Village. The $5 admission goes directly to the scholarship fund, which began in 1936 with a $50 scholarship. Today, the scholarships are $2,500 each.
“To date, we have issued 379 scholarships exceeding $500,000 for Bay Village students,” Trainer said.
The trainer also noted that shoppers can enjoy snacks at concession stands during the show. Note: Face masks are mandatory for the event.
Bay High School is located at 29230 Wolf Road.
Shrove Tuesday at Saint-Raphaël school
Also a throwback event that has delighted area residents for many years, St. Raphael’s School’s Mardi Gras is the parish’s oldest and largest fundraiser for the school, according to Jessica Pecora, event spokesperson.
“Mardi Gras is open to the whole community, not just residents or church members,” she said. “The last event was in 2020 and was held inside the school in a toned down version, but around 500 people still attended.”
The event, due to the cold, takes place at the parish activity center (look for the directional signs) and features games, a balloon artist, food and some pretty amazing raffle prizes. $2 Raffle Ticket Prize Baskets Include: 2022 American Girl Doll of the Year, Oculus, LEGO Grand Piano, iPad, AirPods Pro, Yeti Package, $300 Amazon Gift Card, Visa Gift Card from $300, $300 Best Buy Gift Card and more.
There are also “experience” days with the teachers, at $5 per raffle ticket. These include the blessing of the house from Father Tim, the Headmaster of the Day, a run in Malley with Father Jim, front row seats to many St. Raphael events, special experiences with favorite teachers, PS5 – the latest video game, a reserved parking space and Suite.
The draws will begin at 2 p.m. You don’t need to be present to win. The church is located at 525 Dover Center Road.
